Division of Vedic Knowledge Systems and Epistemology
The Division of Vedic Knowledge Systems and Epistemology is dedicated to the comprehensive exploration, preservation, and reinterpretation of the indigenous knowledge paradigms articulated in the Vedic corpus. This includes a rigorous study of the Saṃhitās, Brāhmaṇas, Āraṇyakas, Upavedas, Śrauta, Śulba, and Gṛhya Sūtras, all of which encapsulate the theoretical, Yājñika, scientific, and socio-ethical dimensions of the Vedic worldview.
The center aims to:
-
Examine the cognitive structures and knowledge systems (vidyā-samūha) encoded in the Vedic texts, including cosmology, yajña science, mathematics (as in Śulba Sūtras), and metaphysics.
-
Analyze Upavedic domains (Dhanurveda, Gāndharvaveda, Sthāpatyaveda) in connection with their Vedic roots and practical manifestations in civilization.
-
Investigate and restore the classical pramāṇa theory (means of valid knowledge) as expounded by systems like Nyāya, Mīmāṃsā, and Vedānta, including pratyakṣa, anumāna, śabda, upamāna, and arthāpatti.
-
Explore Vedic epistemology and logic (nyāyaśāstra, tarka, and hetuvidyā) to build dialogue with modern philosophy of science and cognition.
-
Encourage comparative studies of Vedic epistemology and contemporary epistemological models in both Indian and global philosophical traditions.
-
Support philological, hermeneutic, and historical research that connects Vedic knowledge systems with modern applications in science, ethics, education, and sustainable living.
By bridging textual tradition with analytical philosophy, the center seeks to reaffirm the rational, holistic, and spiritually-grounded foundations of the Vedic intellectual heritage, ensuring its relevance for contemporary academic, cultural, and scientific discourse.
